MONTEREY PARK : City Workers Picket for Contract, 1% Raise
- Share via
City employees picketed in front of Monterey Park City Hall on Tuesday to demand a contract and a 1% pay raise retroactive to July, 1993.
The workers, who include all blue-collar, clerical and police department civilians, are represented by Service Employees International Union, Local 347, and have been working without a contract for two years, according to union negotiator Julie Butcher.
Butcher said the two parties are less than $100,000 apart on negotiations. But she said that a settlement has been stalled by city officials for various reasons, including passage of the state budget and municipal elections.
City officials could not be reached for comment.
