Man Jailed in Rape of Woman, 76
A 26-year-old North Hollywood man was arrested Monday on suspicion of raping and robbing a 76-year-old woman, authorities said.
Carl Fullard was arrested at his house in the 6400 block of Denny Street after clues left at the scene of the crime led police to him, said Detective Gary Barthelmess of the Los Angeles Police Department’s North Hollywood Division.
Barthelmess would not disclose what evidence police recovered.
The woman was sleeping at 5:15 a.m. on Friday when an intruder climbed through the open window of her first-floor apartment and attacked her, police said. The intruder also made off with some cash and jewelry totaling about $200 dollars, Barthelmess said.
Fullard is expected to be charged today with sexual assault, burglary and robbery, Barthelmess said.
The elderly victim is staying with relatives and told police she will not return to her former home, Barthelmess said.
“Physically she’s OK,” Barthelmess said. “Emotionally, she’s highly traumatized by the incident.”
