HACIENDA HEIGHTS: Authorities are asking for the public’s help in finding a man who raped a 14-year-old girl Aug. 7 as she and her family slept in their home in the 1500 block of Galemont Avenue. The rapist entered the house about 5:30 a.m. through an unlocked bedroom window, held a knife to the teen-ager’s throat and threatened to kill her if she screamed, sheriff’s detectives said. The rapist is described as a black male, 5 feet, 7 inches tall. He weighs about 180 pounds, has a stocky build and has black hair and a goatee. Anyone with information is asked to call (818) 858-8765.

MONTEREY PARK: Police will be looking for drunk drivers at a checkpoint Friday night. The checkpoint, which will be at an undisclosed location in the city, is part of an ongoing education and enforcement program. The checkpoints, which are conducted monthly, have resulted in several arrests, police said.

PASADENA: A 21-year-old San Diego man was shot to death Sunday in the 200 block of East Washington Boulevard. The victim, who was shot once with a handgun, was found lying in a driveway about 7 p.m. His name was not released. Police believe the suspects are members of a Pasadena gang but said the victim does not to appear to be a gang member.

POMONA: A 50-year-old Pomona man was critically injured Monday when a car hit him as he crossed the street at Dudley and Elwood streets. Dennis Ray Killebrew suffered multiple fractures in both legs, head injuries and internal bleeding after he apparently stepped in front of a car driven by a Montclair woman, police said. Killebrew was listed in critical condition at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. Police did not cite the driver.

POMONA: Police found the body of a man in the front seat of a car parked at Center and Main streets Sunday. There were no signs of injury or violence, said police, who believe the unidentified man might have died of a drug overdose.

POMONA: Two men robbed an 18-year-old ice cream push-cart vendor in the 1000 block of West Orange Grove Avenue Friday night. Trinidad Sanchez was selling ice cream about 6 p.m. when two men approached him, reached into his cart and removed a handful of ice cream bars and coins. The men then fled the scene. Police arrested Pomona residents Charles Bullard Jr. and Virgus Cole, both 21, on suspicion of robbery. Both men were taken to Pomona City Jail, where Bullard was held on $35,000 bail. Cole was transported to Los Angeles County Jail and was held on $50,000 bail because of an outstanding warrant.
