OUTLOOK

It’s been five years since Bolsa Grande won more than three games in a season and eight years and four coaches since the Matadors won a Garden Grove League title. Graves replaces Gary Stephens, who compiled a 4-16 record in two seasons. With only five starters returning from last year’s team, Bolsa Grande’s luck doesn’t figure to change much. Two-way senior starters Sung, Price, Shaner and Jun should give Bolsa Grande some leadership and stability, but it probably won’t be enough to challenge for a playoff spot. Once again, depth will be a problem for the Matadors, who return 15 lettermen. However, most of the starters probably will have to play on both sides of the line of scrimmage. Bolsa Grande’s biggest loss is Brian Baughman, who threw 20 touchdown passes and netted 2,266 yards, the most of any quarterback in the county last year. Price will be given the task of replacing Baughman. Also gone is Baughman’s favorite wide receiver, Love Jefferson, who caught 36 passes for 571 yards and eight touchdowns.
