CAMARILLO : Manufacturing Zone Changes Considered

The Camarillo Planning Commission has authorized city staff members to study the potential impacts of amending the zoning codes to allow recreational businesses in the city’s manufacturing zone.

In a unanimous vote Tuesday, the commission directed staff members to study possible changes to the codes that would allow such uses as a minor league baseball park or an ice-skating rink to locate in the manufacturing zone on the city’s east side, according to Matthew Boden, director of planning and community development.

“We would like to explore certain uses of this zone other than what it was originally designated for,” Boden said. “We think some large-scale recreational uses could potentially fit well there.”

So far, Boden said, the city has not received any inquiries from companies interested in developing recreational centers in the manufacturing zone.

Boden added that all uses other than manufacturing require the Planning Commission to issue a permit that places restrictions and conditions on the site’s operations.

Currently, four churches have located in the manufacturing zone after receiving conditional use permits from the city. The study on the zoning code changes is expected to be brought back to the commission later this year.
