Share

Dean Chambers passed for 104 yards and a touchdown, and had a rushing score, enabling Western to defeat Loara, 24-7, in front of 900 spectators at Glover Stadium Friday night.

Western utilized a conservative running game to defeat the Saxons, but Chambers, who completed only six of 12 with two interceptions, made the big plays in the clutch.

Western opened the game’s scoring in the first quarter on an eight-yard run by David Bell. Then, midway through the second quarter, Chambers finished a seven-play, 80-yard drive with a two-yard plunge that put Western up, 14-0.

Loara’s score came at 1:57 in the third quarter on a five-yard touchdown pass from Jim Kirkland to Aaron Beverly. The score finished a 17-play, 80-yard drive, the Saxons’ only legitimate drive.

Kirkland completed nine of 30 passes for 72 yards with one interception.
