Changes Proposed for Development Laws in Los Alamitos

Share

Officials are proposing changes to the city’s land development laws for the first time in more than 20 years.

The City Council will hold a public hearing today on a proposed subdivision ordinance that, along with others, would regulate how land will be parceled out and how smaller lots would be combined for bigger projects.

The intent is to encourage orderly land development, officials said. In addition, the ordinance would require developers to set aside areas for public use in proposed developments.

Community Development Director Elizabeth Binsack said the city’s land development laws have not been updated since the 1970s.

She said the city will draft a manual in the next six months that will explain the rules, procedures and interpretation of ordinance, which the council will consider Sept. 26.
