A one-story commercial building being renovated because it suffered damage in the Northridge earthquake was nearly destroyed by a fire early Thursday morning, authorities said.

Eighty firefighters sent to battle the 5:31 a.m. blaze at DGH Food Service, 1547 San Fernando Road, San Fernando, extinguished the fire in about an hour and 15 minutes, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Bob Collis.

The fire, which started in the attic, caused about $250,000 in damage. There were no injuries. The cause is under investigation.
