A Ventura man was shot in the hand early Monday after he was kidnaped and taken to a remote orchard outside Fillmore, authorities said.

Shaun A. Landy, 29, was shot about 4 a.m. at Sycamore Road and Young Street, deputies said. He fled into an orange grove and had a nearby resident call for help.

Shortly thereafter, sheriff’s deputies arrested Raymond S. Price, 36, and his girlfriend, Cathy E. Jordan, 28, both of Ventura, on suspicion of attempted murder and kidnaping, Ventura police said.

Landy told police he had gone to Price’s house in the 1500 block of Nevin Avenue in Ventura to settle a dispute about some construction tools that Landy had borrowed, police said.

An argument ensued, during which Landy said he was beaten up, ordered into a truck and taken to the orchard, police said.

Price and Jordan were being held at Ventura County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail each, Sheriff’s Sgt. Jeff Matson said. Both are scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday.

Landy was taken to Santa Paula Memorial Hospital, where a spokeswoman said he was treated for a gunshot wound to the left hand and then released.
