Bradley Sits Out at Sonoma State

Freddie Bradley’s return to the football field has been stalled, at least for another year.

The record-setting running back from Hueneme High and Moorpark College did not meet NCAA academic eligibility requirements to play for Sonoma State this season, Coach Frank Scalercio said.

Bradley, 23, sat out last season while recovering from a knee injury he sustained during a pickup basketball game and aggravated during spring practice. He transferred to Sonoma State, a Division II school, when the University of Arkansas revoked his scholarship after he was arrested and accused of raping a 13-year-old girl.

Bradley was cleared of the charge in January, 1993.

At Moorpark College in 1990, Bradley led the state in rushing in and broke O.J. Simpson’s state career scoring record. Nagged by injuries in 1991, his one season at Arkansas, Bradley rushed for 197 yards.
