The driver of the off-road vehicle, Brett Compositor, 20, of Westlake, was driving in the Hill Canyon area off Rancho Conejo Boulevard when the Volkswagen lost power and began to roll backward, deputies said.

As the buggy began to flip, Spaeth unfastened his seat belt and jumped while Compositor and another passenger, 20-year-old Brian Meany of Newbury Park, remained in the car, deputies said.

They said neither Compositor nor Meany, who were wearing their seat belts, were injured.

The accident remained under investigation, deputies said.
