Mississippi St. Scores 66, Taite Sets Passing Mark
Derrick Taite threw for a school-record 466 yards and four touchdowns as Mississippi State routed Tulane, 66-22, Saturday.
Taite threw to Chris Jones for a 20-yard touchdown pass three minutes into the game, and added first-half scores on throws of 60 yards to Shaston Coleman, 47 yards to Bernard Euell and 48 yards to Eric Moulds, who had five catches for 160 yards.
Taite was 21 of 30 in breaking the record of 429 yards by Dave Marler set in 1978. His four touchdowns tie a record held by Tony Shell.
Mississippi State (5-2) outgained Tulane (1-6), 554-286, and reached 60 points for the first time since 1946.
