Leo Kosi rushed for 183 yards and Chris Young added 109 yards and four touchdowns as Rancho Alamitos defeated Garden Grove, 47-21, in a Garden Grove League game Friday at Garden Grove High.

The teams traded long touchdowns in the first quarter, with the Vaqueros (5-2-1, 4-0) getting a 50-yard touchdown pass from John Frank to Jeff Turbarg. The Argonauts (4-4, 3-2) responded with a 44-yard scoring run from Manuel Millan on their first play from scrimmage.

But Young gave Rancho the lead for good on its next drive, capping a 13-play, 80-yard march with a three-yard scoring run. Young added short touchdown runs of one, two and three yards in the second half.

Garden Grove pulled to within a touchdown before the halftime homecoming ceremonies on Daniel Sanchez’s one-yard score. Sanchez later scored the Argonauts’ only second-half touchdown, but only after Young added two more scores and Turbarg returned a fumble 30 yards for his third touchdown of the night.

Kosi needed only 13 carries to gain his 183 yards, a 14-yard average. Turbarg made five receptions on the night for 117 yards, including touchdowns of 50 and 42 yards.

Millan led the Argonauts with 91 yards rushing in 14 carries, but his teammates rushed for minus-5 yards combined.

Frank completed seven of 10 passes for 142 yards, but those yards were rather unnecessary because the Vaqueros running game gained 303 yards in 45 carries.

Rancho Alamitos took a major step toward capturing the Garden Grove League title with two weeks remaining.
