THOUSAND OAKS : Sheriff’s Deputies Plan Open House

Share

Police dogs and motorcycles, a bright yellow helicopter and a bomb-handling robot will be shown off Saturday when the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department holds an open house for the public at its East Valley Station in Thousand Oaks.

Deputies will demonstrate equipment from the department’s SWAT team, bomb squad and other special units. They will also distribute pamphlets on programs such as Neighborhood Watch and DARE.

Admission is free, and people are encouraged to bring their cameras and their families--except for pets, which might disturb the police dogs and horses, said Sgt. Jeff Matson.

Food and drink will be on sale. And at 2:30 p.m., the department will put on puppet shows to teach visiting children about traffic and personal safety.

The open house runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the station, 2101 E. Olsen Road, about a quarter mile east of Highway 23.
