CITY SECTION FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Sylmar Marches Along, 55-18

Quarterback Greg Marquez controlled the first half, and sophomore running back Tyrone Morgan sparked Sylmar High in the second half as the Spartans pounded North Hollywood, 55-18, in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game Friday night at Sylmar.
Sylmar, playing without four suspended defensive starters, registered seven sacks. The 18 points Sylmar allowed is a season high.
Marquez threw first-half touchdown passes to four receivers. He connected with Durell Price for a 57-yard touchdown on the Spartans’ second play from scrimmage and fired a 27-yarder to Galdino Cortes on the team’s second possession.
Marquez also threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Mike Cervantes and added a 31-yard scoring pass play to Kevin Brown as Sylmar (9-0, 6-0) built a 27-6 halftime lead.
Marquez completed seven of 13 for 165 yards with one interception.
Morgan scored on runs of 61, 51 and eight yards. He finished with 148 yards in six carries, all in the second half. Sylmar finished with 458 yards, 293 coming on the ground.
North Hollywood (2-7, 2-4) was led by wide receiver Ryan Jones, who caught all six of quarterback Jesus Acosta’s completions, and had scoring receptions of six, five and 80 yards. Jones finished with 118 yards in receptions.
