Two men were shot, a third was arrested and a fourth was still at large after a bank robbery in Torrance on Tuesday afternoon.

The four, all suspects in the robbery at a Downey Savings branch on Pacific Coast Highway, led police on a chase through Torrance and Lomita that reached speeds of 70 m.p.h. It ended when the suspects’ late-model sedan was forced into a collision with a police car on Carson Street, said Torrance police spokesman David Smith.

In the shootout that followed, two suspects were wounded, Smith said. Both were in fair condition at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. The third suspect was booked into the Torrance jail and the fourth escaped, Smith said.

One officer was slightly injured in the collision.

Police said two bank employees were slightly hurt in the robbery. Both were hit with handguns by the robbers, officials said.

Police recovered several handguns and a bag of money from the suspect’s car, Smith said.

After the fourth robber eluded officers on foot, police said, he stole a white compact pickup truck from a carrepair business.
