PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Jenkins Sets Goal of Playing Sunday

Share

Offensive tackle Robert Jenkins is listed as probable for Sunday’s game against the Rams, but he says there is no way an ankle injury will keep him from playing against his former teammates.

“It’s not only a chance for me to play against my former team but to play in front of my family and have them there to support me,” Jenkins said. “It’s just go out and play hard and show everybody that, ‘Hey, I can still play this game.’ ”

Jenkins, from UCLA, played seven seasons with the Rams before signing as a free agent with the Raiders before the start of the season. He spent the first five games on the inactive list before replacing injured Gerald Perry at left tackle three weeks ago.

“I’m not a (trash talker),” Jenkins said. “I’m going to paraphrase from someone that I know from the Rams: ‘I’m just going to kind of lay in the weeds.’ I just line up and play the game.”

Cornerback Albert Lewis will not play Sunday because of a knee sprain suffered against Kansas City. Lewis will be replaced by Lionel Washington, who started the first four games of the season before losing the job to Lewis. Washington is second on the team in interceptions with three.

Safety Derrick Hoskins did not practice Wednesday because of an ankle injury. He is listed as questionable for Sunday. Coach Art Shell said he expects Hoskins to play.

Before the season, the Raiders released middle linebacker Joe Kelly--who now starts at outside linebacker for the Rams--in favor of Greg Biekert.

After nine games, Biekert leads the team with 52 tackles, including 10 against Kansas City. Shell said that the move has worked for both teams.

“(Kelly) is doing pretty good (for the Rams),” Shell said. “But I think I told you in the off-season that we felt good about Biekert and we haven’t changed our mind about that. Biekert’s come on and played very well for us.”

The Raiders have played the Rams seven times during the regular season, winning five, including a 20-17 victory at the Coliseum in 1991. The only time the teams played in Anaheim was 1985 when the Raiders won, 16-6.
