‘Sisters in Crime’ to Feature 3 Award-Winning Authors : Proceeds from the seminar will help fund Educational Foundation scholarships.

The American Assn. of University Women, Thousand Oaks branch, is sponsoring the annual “Sisters in Crime” seminar featuring three award-winning mystery authors:

Susan Dunlap, an Anthony Award winner, is a founding member of “Sisters in Crime” and the author of 13 mysteries in the private eye, police detective and amateur sleuth categories.

Wendy Hornsby, the recipient of the prestigious Edgar Allan Poe Award in 1992, has written five books and many short stories. Her latest book, “Bad Intent,” continues the adventures of her Los Angeles based sleuth.

Sharan Newman’s medieval novel “Death Comes as Epiphany” won the 1993 Macavity Award for best first mystery. Newman’s second medieval mystery, “The Devil’s Door,” was published this year. She is also the author of the Queen Guinevere trilogy.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Rockwell Science Center, 1049 Camino Dos Rios, Thousand Oaks. Proceeds from the seminar help fund the association’s Educational Foundation scholarships. The fee is $5. Call Barbara Wilson at 493-2179 to register.

David Novak will appear at Oak Grove School, 220 W. Lomita Ave., Ojai, at 7 tonight to perform original and traditional tales for children. Tickets are $4 for children, $6 for adults. Call 646-8236.

Mysteries to Die For, 2940 Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks, continues to bring us writers who are producing fictional murder and mayhem. First-time author Craig Holden will introduce “The River Sorrow” at 6 p.m. Friday. The enduring Ross Thomas will sign his 25th novel, “Ah Treachery,” at 1 p.m. Saturday. And Stephen Greenleaf will sign his latest John Tanner mystery, “False Conception,” at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Barnes & Noble, 4360 E. Main St., Ventura, will host two cookbook authors and a genealogy expert this week.

Gail Hobbs, author of “Great Things Are Cookin’ in Ventura,” will be joined by Pierpont Inn chef Louis Ludwig and chef Robert Garcia of Capistrano’s at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Hobbs’ cookbook features recipes from more than 30 restaurants and includes photographs and local history. Andy Lo Russo, author of “Sing and Cook Italian,” will sing and sign in the bookstore at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Local historian Pat Schrader will present a workshop on how to trace your family tree at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Victor Villasenor, author of the critically acclaimed bestseller “Rain of Gold,” will read from his new children’s book, “Walking Stars,” at 2 p.m. Sunday at Phantom Bookshop, 451 E. Main St., Ventura.

Actress Brooke Adams will read at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the new children’s room, Ojai Table of Contents, 208 E. Ojai Ave., Ojai.
