Two Swimmers Sign With CS Northridge

The Cal State Northridge women’s swim team announced the signing of two new recruits Tuesday.

Kim Piorto, from Mesa, Ariz., and Julie White from Milwaukee, Wis., will swim freestyle for the Matadors next season. Piorto has a 3.9 grade-point average, and White, who also swims in backstroke events, has a 3.8 GPA.

College Football

Valley College (9-1) is ranked ninth and Moorpark (8-2) is 10th in the final state junior college football poll. City College of San Francisco (10-0) is ranked No. 1.

Basketball

Chaminade High has added an impact player to its girls’ basketball program.

Sheila Shalati, a transfer from the state of Washington, enrolled at the school four weeks ago and already has earned a starting position at point guard.

“She’s really a great addition for us,” Coach Lisa Magorien said of the 5-foot-1 Shalati. “She’s added a whole new level to the program.”

Greg Goorjian, Brad Holland, and Harvey Mason will lead a team of former Falcon standouts against coach John Goffredo’s current squad.

Sarah Morgan, a freshman at Notre Dame High, has been selected to the California’s south team of the girls’ under 15 soccer Olympic development club. Morgan is 14.
