PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Miller Softens His Criticism

Share

Quarterback Chris Miller tried to clear the air with Ram players Wednesday after his critical comments about wide receiver Jessie Hester Monday angered some of his teammates.

Miller criticized Hester for dropping two passes and running the wrong route in a 31-17 loss to San Diego on Sunday.

Miller, who was intercepted four times, was asked Wednesday about the team’s reaction to his comments and pointed a finger at the media.

“I’ll just leave it alone,” he said. “I should probably be a little more careful what I say to y’all.”

Hester, who accepted responsibility for the mistakes, said he and a small group of players met with Miller. Hester said Miller told them he was misquoted.

“I didn’t take it that hard, personally,” Hester said. “I came out in the second half and ran a couple routes too deep and made a couple wrong turns. I made some mistakes, and I can step up to that.

“Chris just wanted me to know. We don’t want any finger-pointing here, we want a tight-knit family.”

Center Bern Brostek signed a four-year contract extension worth approximately $1.5 million and returned to the starting lineup after sitting out the last six games because of a broken bone in his right leg.

Tom Newberry, who had been starting at center, will return to left guard, moving second-year player Chuck Belin to the bench.

The Rams also signed backup linebacker and special teams player Tom Homco to a three-year contract extension and promoted wide receiver Jermaine Ross to the active roster.
