LA PALMA : Public’s Help Sought in Hit-and-Run Death

Share

Frustrated by the unsolved hit-and-run death of a 73-year-old woman Nov. 30, police will hand out flyers today asking for the public’s help.

Maria Harrington was struck and killed by a truck as she walked across the street at Orangethorpe Avenue and Valley View Street just after 5 p.m. Witnesses gave police a vague description of a white truck with a blue cab, driven by a Latino man, about 25 to 30 years old.

Police plan an informational traffic checkpoint at the same intersection between 4:30 and 7:30 p.m., according to Capt. Vince Giampa. The flyers feature Harrington’s photograph, with details of the incident.

“We have no other leads,” the flyer says, “and without your help, Maria’s killer will not be apprehended.”

“This is very frustrating for us,” Giampa said.

He said it was “certainly possible,” given the size of truck and Harrington’s small stature, that the driver may not have realized he had hit her.
