A magnitude-3.6 earthquake jolted the Ojai Valley on Friday evening, but left no reports of damage or injuries.

The quake hit at 6:34 p.m. and was centered about six miles west of Ojai. It was not an aftershock of the Jan. 17 Northridge earthquake, said Riley Geary, a seismologist at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.

Dispatchers with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department received about 25 calls from Ojai residents curious about the quake. None reported any problems, said Sgt. Chris Lathrop.

At the Ventura County Fire Department’s station in Meiners Oaks, the quake was felt in two parts--a slight shaking followed by a sharper jolt, said Capt. Norm Plott.

“It felt like a rumble and then like a mini-jolt real close together,” he said. “We actually heard a little bit of noise, a little rumble or something but not anything pronounced.”

Following department policy, the station’s four firefighters moved an engine and truck outside for about an hour to guard against any damage from possible aftershocks.

Plott said the quake knocked a pipe in the station’s bathroom loose causing water to briefly spew across the floor until it was repaired.
