Airport Authority’s Arrogant Attitude

Share

As a homeowner in the flight path of Burbank Airport, I am continually astounded at the arrogant attitude of the Burbank/Glendale/Pasadena Airport Authority.

Do they honestly expect us to believe that limiting the number of aircraft gates will not limit the number of flights? How many planes can occupy a gate at one time? Furthermore, the city of Burbank is only minimally affected by planes’ taking off and landing (areas west of Hollywood Way and north of Camarillo Street), while Glendale and Pasadena suffer no discomfort at all. However, they do receive all the revenues.

Meanwhile, the residents of the east San Fernando Valley (part of Los Angeles) have their sleep disturbed, their phone calls interrupted, their quality of life damaged, as windows rattle and houses shake. The lawsuits brought by Los Angeles are intended to protect its residents, not “harass” the businessmen running the facility, as critics say.

This airport was never intended for high volumes of commercial aircraft. It is small and very dangerous and placed in an area with a high population density. There is virtually no room for error should a plane or pilot malfunction. Perhaps it is time to scale back the Burbank Airport and find a better, safer location and give us back our peace of mind.
