A 29-year-old Walnut station sheriff’s deputy was shot in the head Saturday while making a traffic stop in Rowland Heights, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

The deputy, whose name was not released, was shot just before 6 p.m. in the 18400 block of La Guardia Street, said Deputy Angie McLaughlin. She declined to release other details of the shooting.

“Neighbors in the area say they heard three gunshots and saw a vehicle speeding away from the scene,” McLaughlin said, “They called Walnut station when they saw a deputy was wounded.”
