A set of illustrated children’s books created by Hispanas Organized for Political Equality (HOPE) was donated Monday to Fernangeles Elementary School in Sun Valley.
The book, called “Women of HOPE,” features the stories of six women representing different regions of Central and South America. It was written to promote pride and awareness in Latina schoolgirls in the United States.
The Commission for Sex Equity, part of the Los Angeles Unified School District, collaborated with HOPE to donate 140 books to four schools throughout the district.
Other schools receiving books include Utah Street Elementary in the Pico/Aliso area, Ninth Street Elementary in Downtown Los Angeles and 102nd Street Elementary, located near the Jordan Downs housing projects in Los Angeles.
