COLLEGE BASKETBALL : No Need for a Lift for Arizona

Ray Owes scored 21 points and Damon Stoudamire had 19 Monday night to lead seventh-ranked Arizona to a 92-76 victory over La Salle at Tucson.

Arizona Coach Lute Olson missed the game because of back problems caused while lifting weights. He was replaced by assistant Jim Rosborough as the Wildcats improved to 6-1.

For La Salle (5-1), Kareem Townes scored 24 points.

No. 12 Maryland 120, Towson State 73--Keith Booth scored 18 points as the Terrapins (7-2) rolled over the Tigers (3-3) at College Park, Md.

No. 18 Michigan State 111, Cleveland State 68--Shawn Respert scored 27 points to lead the Spartans (3-1) over the Vikings (2-3) at East Lansing, Mich.

OTHER GAMES

Oregon State 72, Fresno State 67--Forwards Brent Barry and Mustapha Hoff both scored 25 points to lead the Beavers (3-2) over the Bulldogs (3-3) at Corvallis, Ore.

Southern 132, Faith Baptist 44--Tim Roberts made 10 three-point shots and scored a school-record 56 points to lead the Jaguars (2-0) over The Force (5-9) at Baton Rouge, La.

Faith Baptist, located in the small south Louisiana community of Church Point, is fielding a team for the first time this season.
