PASADENA : Sex Offender Scheduled for Parole on Sunday

A convicted sex offender who committed most of his crimes in Pasadena is scheduled to be released on parole into Los Angeles County if he passes a psychiatric exam, authorities said.

Carnot Andre Lyles, 38, convicted of committing a sex act with a 9-year-old girl and other felonies in 1990 and raping and sodomizing a Pasadena woman in 1978, is likely to pass the exam and would be released into south Los Angeles County on Sunday, Regional Parole Administrator Jerry DiMaggio said.

Lyles, who has family in Pasadena, requested that he be paroled to that city so he could take care of his sick father, DiMaggio said. But Pasadena police, who were informed of Lyles’ parole on Nov. 8, contacted six of Lyles’ victims and had them sign the appropriate paperwork to keep the felon out of the city. Under state law an inmate on parole cannot be released within 35 miles of a victim or witness to a violent felony if they protest.

Lyles also has attempted murder, armed robbery and burglary convictions. In 1976, he pleaded guilty to the rape of a 65-year-old Pasadena woman. Lyles appealed and the case was overturned because evidence had been destroyed.

Lyles is being held at the R. J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego, DiMaggio said.
