A 35-year-old man ambushed in front of his home Dec. 3 died of his wounds Sunday, police said.

Peter I. Montano was shot twice in front of his home in the 1800 block of Moorpark Drive, and had been in critical condition since being airlifted to UCI Medical Center, where he died Sunday at 4:30 p.m.

There are no new leads in the continuing investigation, according to Lt. Cliff Trimble.

Montano, who managed an auto parts store in Los Angeles, told neighbors after being hit that his two male attackers knew him. As many as 10 shots might have been fired, police said. The attackers fled in a maroon car.

“He knew the people involved” in the shooting, said Sgt. Ed McDonald, but the nature of the relationship was not immediately known.

McDonald said that Montano’s home had been burglarized several weeks before the shooting. McDonald said he didn’t know if the shooting was related to the burglary.
