Indiana has never lost a game in the Hoosier Classic, and Eastern Kentucky Coach Mike Calhoun had little hope his Colonels would end the streak in Bloomington.

“If we came in here and won this first game, it would have been nothing short of a miracle,” Calhoun said after a 92-49 Indiana victory in the first round of the tournament Wednesday night.

“An earthquake or something would have to happen.”

Alan Henderson scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the 24th-ranked Hoosiers (7-4). Brian Evans had 19 points, and freshman Michael Hermon scored a career-high 16 points to help Indiana to its fifth consecutive victory.

No. 10 Arizona 95, Richmond 68--Damon Stoudamire keyed Arizona’s 32-6 burst in the first 10 minutes of the second half as the Wildcats blew past Richmond in the Fiesta Bowl Classic at Tucson.

Arizona (8-2) will face Texas Tech (4-3) Friday in the championship. It has won each of its nine previous tournaments.

Stoudamire, who scored 19 points and triggered an intense defensive effort, made three of his five three-pointers after Arizona led, 46-36, at halftime.

Eight of Corey Williams’ 13 points came on two three-pointers and a jumper, and Ben Davis, making his first start, converted a free throw and scored on a layup and jam during the run.

Richmond’s Kass Weaver led all scorers with 26 points.

No. 12 Georgetown 83, Grambling 66--Allen Iverson had 27 points and five steals and broke open a close game with a late spurt in the first round of the Sacramento Holiday Classic.

The Hoyas (6-1) are undefeated since opening their season with a loss to Arkansas. Othella Harrington had 16 points, and his five rebounds moved him into 17th place on Georgetown’s career rebounding list--only six behind NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue.

Iverson, who as a Georgetown freshman is prohibited by team rules from giving interviews until next semester, used his quickness to control the game at both ends of the court.

Iverson scored most of his points on slashing drives to the basket, but his biggest impact came on defense--where his quickness disrupted the Grambling offense and caused many of the Tigers’ 24 turnovers.

No. 14 California 79, Columbia 43--Tremaine Fowlkes scored 18 points to lead the unbeaten Golden Bears to their seventh victory in the opening round of the Otis Spunkmeyer Classic at Oakland. Tony Gonzales and Monty Buckley had nine points for Cal.

No. 16 Arizona State 65, Pacific 50--Ron Riley scored a game-high 17 points to lead Arizona State past Pacific in the first round of the ASU-Tribune Classic at Tempe, Ariz.

Arizona State (8-2) will face Vanderbilt (6-1) in the championship game tonight.

Arizona State led, 36-35, with 13:35 remaining before Riley keyed a 12-3 run with four points and a pair of steals. Isaac Burton finished with 15 points and Mario Bennett had eight points and 12 rebounds for the Sun Devils.

No. 20 Cincinnati 69, No. 17 Georgia Tech 66--Freshman Danny Fortson had 20 points and nine rebounds to lead the Bearcats in the opening round of the Rainbow Classic in Honolulu.

Cincinnati (8-3) took the lead for good at 66-64 on a backdoor layup by LaZelle Durden with 1:30 to play. Neither team scored on its next possession, but Art Long came through for the Bearcats when he tipped in his own miss with 21 seconds to play.
