SOUTH-CENTRAL : Training Seminars on L.A. Marathon

Seasoned marathoners and those simply thinking about running their first race are invited to a series of free seminars this month at the Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital.

All seminars are designed for runners preparing for the Los Angeles Marathon, to be held March 5.

The meetings will be held Wednesdays at 7 p.m. in the Crowe Seminar Room at the hospital, 2400 S. Flower St.

The following topics will be covered this month:

* The Los Angeles Marathon: conducted by Bill Burke, president of the Los Angeles Marathon, Wednesday.

* The Running Knee: hosted by Dr. Clarence Shields, member of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic, Jan. 11.

* Eating for Endurance: hosted by Susan Magrann, a registered dietitian, Jan. 18.

* Prevention of Running Injuries: held by Dr. Blair Filler, director of medical education at Orthopaedic Hospital and USC clinical professor of orthopedic surgery, Jan. 25.

Established in 1922, Orthopaedic Hospital is a nonprofit education and research facility dedicated to treating bone, nerve, joint, muscle and other orthopedic disorders.

Orthopaedic Hospital has provided medical support on race day for 10 years, and through the Los Angeles Roadrunners has offered a training course for prospective marathon participants for eight years.

This year marks the second year that Orthopaedic Hospital has served as an official marathon sponsor.
