Star! (Cinemax Sunday at noon) is Robert Wise’s engrossing 1968 musical treatment of the life of the tart English star Gertrude Lawrence. She is played stunningly by Julie Andrews. The epic film remains one of the most underappreciated of all major Hollywood productions.

Delicatessen (Cinemax Monday at 4:50 a.m.), filmmakers Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro’s fearsomely intense nightmare vision of the future, is set in a post-apocalyptic French city.

Wanda (Bravo Monday at 9:30 a.m., again at 3 p.m.) is Barbara Loden’s extraordinary 1971 film in which Loden stars as the woebegone girlfriend of a two-bit crook (Michael Higgins). The result is a pair of fully realized portraits of losers.

Freaks (TMC Friday at 1:55 a.m.), Tod Browning’s unique 1932 drama of the lives of sideshow carnival freaks, has a cast of actual performers.
