The California Deluge : Police Attempt to Identify Body

Share

Los Angeles police were trying Tuesday to identify the body of a man, apparently beaten to death, who was found near the Foothill Freeway in Sun Valley.

The body was found in a ravine about 11 a.m. Monday by Caltrans workers clearing out a drain along the freeway between La Tuna Canyon Road and Sunland Boulevard, Police Lt. Joe Garcia said.

The man appeared to have been dead for up to a week, Garcia said, and apparently died of blunt force trauma.

“The problem we have is with the rain,” Garcia added, saying the week’s downpour may have washed away valuable clues.

The body is that of a thin man between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-9. He was wearing an off-white turtleneck shirt decorated with the sun and palm trees and the word “California,” Garcia said.
