GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Celio Scores 31 Points, Helps Rosary Get Past Saddleback

Kathleen Celio scored 31 points, had 21 rebounds and five assists as Rosary held off Saddleback, 66-64, in a Golden West League game Thursday at Saddleback.

Sarah Belavic’s steal with 11 seconds left sealed the game for Rosary (9-3, 1-1). Leslie Fulton added 16 rebounds for Rosary.

In other Golden West League play:

Ocean View 71, Santa Ana 29--Jennifer Tuiolosega scored 20 points and had six assists for Ocean View (10-7, 3-0). Becky Fraser added 18 points and 16 rebounds and D.J. Douty scored 11 points.

Westminster 65, Tustin 47--Amber Farroux scored 28 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for Westminster (9-7, 2-0). Janna Needham scored 10 for Tustin (9-8, 1-1).

In the Century League:

Santa Ana Valley 52, Orange 26--Velina Gibson had 17 points and eight assists and Allison Napier had 17 points and seven rebounds for host Santa Ana Valley (11-5, 2-1).

Villa Park 38, Foothill 27--Megan Reynolds scored 11 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Mary Jo Pennington had 10 points for Villa Park (9-6, 2-1).

In the Empire League:

El Dorado 62, Century 37--Jamie Nebeker and Shanna Renken combined for 33 first-half points for the seventh-ranked Golden Hawks (10-4, 2-0). Nebeker finished with 21 points and Renken had 16. Adriana Moreno scored nine of her 13 points in the fourth quarter for Century (10-5, 1-1).

Katella 43, Loara 40--Catherine Painter’s layup with 33 seconds remaining broke a 40-40 tie for Katella (4-8, 1-0). Paola Flores scored a game-high 16 points for Loara (4-9, 0-2).

Kennedy 43, Cypress 41 (OT)--Karin Kitagawa made four free throws as host Kennedy hit 10 of 14 free throws in overtime. Kitagawa and Nicole Gallaher each scored 11 points for Kennedy (9-5, 1-0). Stacy Silva scored 18 points for Cypress (7-9, 0-2).

In the Freeway League:

La Habra 44, Fullerton 36--Amy Lien had 12 points, nine rebounds and four steals and Brooke Koehler had 10 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals to help La Habra (10-5, 3-0) hold off host Fullerton (8-9, 1-2).

Fullerton led, 32-31, going into the fourth quarter, but La Habra gave up only one basket until a concession shot with 10 seconds left.

Fullerton’s Nadia Hoerner was held to 10 points, seven short of her average, and Shannon Hoerner also scored 10.

Sunny Hills 41, Buena Park 24--Randi Kameoka scored 30 points to lead visiting Sunny Hills (1-16, 1-2) to its first victory of the season.

Troy 56, Sonora 47--Jennie Gadd scored 24 points for Troy (11-5, 3-0). Aiyana Nash scored 21 for Sonora (3-13, 1-2).

In the Olympic League:

Calvary Chapel 49, Brethren Christian 38--Point guard Christy Ring scored 14 points and had seven assists and seven steals to lead Calvary Chapel (5-8, 2-0). Whitney Hoover scored 17 points and added seven steals for the Eagles.

In the Orange League:

Brea Olinda 103, Valencia 43--Third-ranked Brea got double-digit scoring from seven players, led by Kiyoko Miller with 17 points and Lee Moulin with 15. Heather Hoppe and Jaime Snavely each scored nine for Valencia (2-13, 0-3).

Magnolia 52, Anaheim 25--Mary Tuazon scored 13 points and her sister Michelle added 12 for Magnolia (10-8, 3-0). Teammate Amber Pickett added 11 points. Stephanie Durrett scored 12 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for Anaheim (3-10, 0-3).

Western 65, Savanna 40--Adrienne Ratajczak and Jennifer Christensen each scored 21 points to lead Western (2-1 in league). Amy Klingelsmith led Savanna (1-2) with 10 points.

In the Sea View League:

El Toro 61, Santa Margarita 54--Janell Jewett scored 16 points for visiting El Toro (6-10, 1-2). Shannon Redfern led Santa Margarita (5-6, 1-2) with 20 points.

Newport Harbor 59, Corona del Mar 34--Andree Verhulst scored 20 points and had six assists for No. 6 Newport Harbor (13-1, 3-0). Lindsey Warmington paced Corona del Mar with 16 points.

Woodbridge 94, Irvine 26--Angela Burgess scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for No. 2 Woodbridge (16-1, 3-0); Krissy Duperron had 15 points and Erin Conley scored 13. Irvine (9-7, 1-2) got 17 points from Shawnee Stevens.

Mater Dei 82, Trabuco Hills 46--Melody Peterson scored 26 points and Margaret Hollis added 11 for top-ranked Mater Dei (14-0, 2-0).

Mission Viejo 55, Dana Hills 39--Kortney Okura had 17 points and Shelly Higham had nine points and eight assists for host Mission Viejo (8-6, 1-1).
