COLLEGE ROUNDUP : UC Irvine Women Remain Unbeaten in Big West

Michelle Kahler and Tamera Thomas each scored 12 points to lead visiting UC Irvine to a 64-43 victory over San Jose State Friday. The Anteaters (7-4, 4-0) remain undefeated in conference play. Jinelle Williams added 11 points and Cher Scanlon had nine rebounds. San Jose is 3-11, 1-4.

In other Big West Conference women’s basketball:

Long Beach State 77, Nevada 69--Melissa Gower scored 22 points and 20 rebounds for the 49ers (6-6, 4-1).Gower was 12 for 16 from the line and five for 12 from the field. Kim Barfield added 18 points for the visiting 49ers, and Akia Hardy scored 13 points and had nine assists.

In Rocky Mountain Dual Meet Wrestling:

Oklahoma State 43, Cal State Fullerton 3; Wyoming 41, Cal State Fullerton 6--The Titans were beaten soundly twice in a double dual meet against No. 2 Oklahoma State and host Wyoming at MultiPurpose Gym in Laramie, Wyo.

The Titans (2-11) got two victories from Jason Roberts (150 pounds), who defeated Derek Sanders of Oklahoma State, 6-1, and Shilo Mathill of Wyoming, 7-5. Tim Rennick (190 pounds) posted the only other Titan victory with a 4-3 decision over Wyoming’s Darin Smith.

In nonconference women’s gymnastics:

UCLA 190.324, Fullerton 190.025--Cristi Clifford finished in second place in the individual all-around competition and first in the vault for the Titans (0-1), who lost by only three-tenths of a point. UCLA’s Stella Umeh won the individual all-around.
