A 30-year-old Lake Forest woman was killed Sunday when her car crossed lanes into oncoming traffic on Serrano Road and struck another vehicle head-on, police said.

Katherine S. Taylor was pronounced dead on arrival at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center shortly after the 3:57 p.m. accident, said Lt. Rex Hatch of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Two women riding in the car hit by Taylor’s vehicle suffered minor injuries, Hatch said. The driver, Katherine Lee Weber, 41, of Moss Beach, Calif., and her passenger, Candy Noreen Desmond, 46, of Atlanta, Ga., suffered bumps and bruises and were treated and released at the hospital, Hatch said.

Taylor was driving southbound on Serrano Road near Shasta Lake Drive in her Suzuki Samurai when she crossed into the approaching lanes and struck the Mercury Sable driven by Weber, Hatch said.

An autopsy will be performed today to determine the exact cause of death for Taylor, who suffered severe head and chest injuries in the crash, a spokesman for the Orange County coroner’s office said.

It is not known what caused Taylor to veer into the other car, Hatch said.
