Missing Sylmar Man, 44, Is Found
A developmentally disabled man reported missing from a Sylmar group home late last month was found safe in Downtown Los Angeles, authorities said Sunday.
Rick Funk, 44, disappeared Dec. 23 from the Astoria Home and was found early Saturday by John Orendorff Jr., 37, a Reseda man who saw Funk’s face in the newspaper and went looking for him, according to Los Angeles police.
Orendorff told officers that he took flyers produced by the Astoria Home and went searching for Funk, whom he remembered seeing in the Downtown area. Funk was found by Orendorff and taken to the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Valley station, where he was reunited with his mother, Sgt. Robert Reihm said.
Funk told authorities he was living off meals from a homeless shelter, but had no way of getting home because he was robbed of his bus pass.
