Cities Will Pay More for Deputies’ Patrols

Cities patrolled by Ventura County sheriff’s deputies will pay 3% to 5% more for law enforcement services under a plan approved by the Board of Supervisors.

The board on Tuesday agreed to the Sheriff Department’s rate increase for services provided to Thousand Oaks, Moorpark, Camarillo, Ojai and Fillmore.

The increase, which covers everything from deputies’ salaries to insurance, is retroactive to July 1. The rate increases vary based on the amount, type and range of services.

Under the new rates, Thousand Oaks will pay an additional $343,510 a year for law enforcement services; Fillmore, $148,611; Moorpark, $90,215; Ojai, $24,183, and Camarillo, $19,548.

“The increase is less than moderate,” said Andrew Kish, a senior accountant for the Sheriff’s Department. “The cities might feel like they’re not low enough, but from a county standpoint, it’s a pretty low increase.”
