Tony Jacklin will compete for the first time March 3-5 in the Senior PGA Tour’s FHP Health Care Classic at Ojai Valley Inn, organizers announced.

Jacklin won the 1970 U.S. Open and is a former captain of the European Ryder Cup team. Also expected to play are Arnold Palmer, defending champion Jay Sigel, 1991 champion Chi Chi Rodriguez and Dave Stockton, 1993 Senior PGA player of the year.

Basketball

Three Crescenta Valley High players are among the state statistical leaders in boys’ basketball. Brock Jacobsen is sixth in scoring at 28.3 points per game. Jake Willis is second in assists (10.2 per game) and Blake Jacobson is second in field-goal shooting (69%).

Charlie Petit of La Canada is fifth in three-point baskets (3.8 per game). L.A. Baptist’s Russ Brumpton (91%) is second in free-throw percentage, with Simi Valley’s Scott Blough (85.7%) fourth and Littlerock’s James Jefferson (83.7%) fifth.

Amirah Leonard and Michelle Greco of Crescenta Valley are among the girls’ leaders.

Leonard is second in the state in three-point baskets (3.2 per game) and Greco is seventh in field-goal shooting (62.5%).

Cheryl Flores (Bell-Jeff) is sixth in assists (6.1) and Tawnee Cooper (Simi Valley) is fifth in free-throw percentage (75.8%).

The undefeated Cal Lutheran women’s team is ranked seventh in the Columbus Multimedia Division III team efficiency ratings. The Regals (12-0) were ranked 11th in the previous poll.

Canyon High’s Foothill League boys’ basketball game at Burbank Tuesday, Jan. 24, has been rescheduled for Feb. 9.

Figure Skating

Michelle Kwan, world junior figure skating champion, will take part in a skating exhibition Sunday at Pickwick Ice Arena in Burbank.

Kwan was an alternate figure skater for the United States in the 1994 Winter Olympics in Norway.

Kwan and her sister, Karen Kwan, will skate routines they will perform at the U.S. National Figure Skating Championship this month in Rhode Island.

West Valley National Little League has scheduled registration and tryouts for baseball on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Senior Baseball tryouts are Saturday.

Loyola High’s Matt Penticost, a Burbank resident, said he will attend UCLA. The 6-foot-4, 275-pound tackle was a Division I All-Southern Section selection and the only offensive lineman from California chosen for Blue Chip Illustrated’s Dream Team.

Tennis

Twins Mike and Bob Bryan of Camarillo were named to the United States Tennis Assn. boys’ 18-and-under junior national team.
