George Tsamis, 27, became the Dodgers’ first possible replacement player, reaching agreement on a triple-A contract that will bring him into major league camp if the strike continues into spring training.
Tsamis, a left-hander, has pitched six professional seasons--including 41 games with the Minnesota Twins in 1993.
“I don’t want people to be upset with me,” Tsamis said. “I never said I would be a replacement player. I don’t have to decide that yet. But this is an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.”

The Angels offered a club-record $4.3 million for their designated hitter, but neither side anticipates an arbitration hearing. They have reached an agreement in principal on a three-year contract worth $11.25-$11.5 million, but are prevented from formalizing the deal until the players’ union lifts its strike-related signing ban.
