Construction Spending Rises From a Year Ago

Construction spending in Ventura County during November totaled $70.4 million, according to the Construction Industry Research Board. The amount compares with $43.3 million in October and $37.2 million in November, 1993.

A total of 465 residential units were started in the county in November, the board said, compared with only 152 in October and 102 in November, 1993.

The board, a Burbank-based industry group, said new residential projects in November were valued at $57.4 million, up from $29.6 million the previous month and $21 million a year earlier.

New multifamily projects were especially strong in November, the board said. Permits for 264 apartments and condominiums were issued during the month, compared with 32 in October and 28 a year earlier.

Permits for new single-family homes totaled 201 in November, compared with 120 the previous month and 74 in November, 1993, the board said.
