LA PALMA : 4 Cities Seek Grant to Teach Oil Recycling

Share

The City Council has voted to join Seal Beach, Los Alamitos and Cypress in seeking a $31,368 state grant for better informing residents about ways to recycle used motor oil.

City officials noted that by filing a joint application with the state, the four cities can get a larger grant.

If the state approves the application, the four cities plan to use inserts in residents’ utility bills to provide information about places where used motor oil may be taken for recycling.

La Palma similarly joined with Seal Beach, Los Alamitos and Cypress last year in successfully applying for a state grant for motor oil recycling use.

Brigitte Charles, a La Palma official, told the council in a memo that last year’s joint action garnered the four cities $43,472, whereas La Palma would have been able to obtain only $6,886 in state money had it applied alone.

The council approved the application at its Jan. 17 meeting.
