GRANADA HILLS : Arrest Ordered in Animal Cruelty Case

Share

An owner of a string of family-run Christmas tree lots failed to show up for his arraignment on charges of cruelty to animals, prompting the city attorney’s office to say that his arrest will be ordered.

Ty Miller, 30, testified at the trial of his father, Stuart, and brother, William, earlier this month. Stuart and William Miller were charged with animal cruelty in connection with the death of one of their fallow deer--which they would dress up as a reindeer during the Christmas season.

Ty Miller testified that he was responsible for the Granada Hills lot where the animal died, prompting prosecutors to target him for charges, Deputy City Atty. Norman Wegener said.

But Ty Miller did not show up at his arraignment on Wednesday, the city attorney’s office said.

An attorney for Stuart Miller said he did not know why Ty Miller missed the arraignment. A San Fernando jury earlier this month acquitted William Miller of animal cruelty charges, and split 10-2 in favor of convicting Stuart Miller on those charges.

William Miller was convicted of possessing exotic animals without a permit and sentenced to work 150 hours at an animal shelter, the city attorney’s office said.
