LAGUNA HILLS : Parks Commissioners to Focus on Center
Two of the three appointees to the new Parks and Recreation Commission have said in recent interviews they will focus their efforts on developing a community and recreation center that could help unite residents in this young city.
“My main goal is to see--eventually because this isn’t going to happen overnight--a community center built,” said Stephanie Mann, 54, who was chosen to serve her first term on any city commission.
Karen Nickels, whom the City Council chose to serve a second two-year term on the commission, echoed Mann’s thought, saying she hopes the city will start looking seriously at creating a recreational center, possibly near Laguna Hills High School.
Both Nickels and Mann said they also plan to continue the upgrading of local parks that the city has begun since its incorporation. Nickels, 47, said she wants to see more backstops at local parks so kids can have more baseball practice areas.
The City Council also chose Tom Farr, 46, to serve a second term on the commission.
