HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Canyon Victory Over Hart Thrice as Nice, 53-49

Canyon High defeated rival Hart, 53-49, Thursday night, in a Foothill League game at Canyon, beating the Indians for the third time in four meetings this season.

But Hart didn’t go quietly.

The Indians’ Mike Posey scored nine of his 18 points in the fourth quarter, making two three-point shots in the final 20 seconds as Hart rallied from a nine-point third-quarter deficit. Corey Johnson scored five of his 10 points in the final minute, helping Hart (12-12, 5-5) close to within 51-49 with 10 seconds left.

Ruben Castaneda was fouled with four seconds left and hit both free throws to clinch the victory for the Cowboys (13-9, 6-4).

Greg Minor had 20 points for Canyon.

Burbank 71, Burroughs 46--Carlos Baker scored 18 points as the Bulldogs (14-7, 8-1) clinched a share of the Foothill League title.

GIRLS

Hart 64, Canyon 33--The Indians (18-5, 9-1) had 39 points at halftime of the Foothill League game after shooting 59%.

LaCresha Clark scored 25 points and Jaime Broneer had 14 for Hart. Laura Tweedy scored 22 points for Canyon (7-16, 2-8).

Buena 61, Hueneme 37--Eboni Conley had 19 points, eight steals, seven rebounds and six assists for the Bulldogs (17-2, 11-0) in a Channel League game at Buena.

Burroughs 73, Burbank 28--The Indians held Burbank scoreless in the first quarter of a Foothill League game at Burroughs. Suzy Babko finished with 17 points, eight steals and eight blocks for Burroughs (13-10, 8-2).

Michelle Starkey scored nine points for Burbank (0-19, 0-10).

Alemany 69, Chaminade 33--Samantha Rigley scored 17 points for the Indians (17-3, 6-0) in a Mission League game at Chaminade. Kelly McKay added 15 points for the Indians, who outscored the Eagles, 24-4, in the first quarter.

Newbury Park 65, Agoura 30--Julie Wastell had 17 points, and Jann Thorpe added 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Panthers (22-1, 12-0), who clinched a share of the Marmonte League title.

Simi Valley 60, Channel Islands 51--Tawnee Cooper scored 21 of her 27 points in the second half for the Pioneers (20-4, 10-2) in a Marmonte League game.

Danielle Curtis scored 26 points for Channel Islands (12-12, 6-6).

Thousand Oaks 58, Westlake 25--Jenn Detmer had 25 points for the Lancers (16-8, 9-3) in a Marmonte game at Westlake.

Louisville 64, Harvard-Westlake 51--Becky Witt had 20 points, 10 rebounds and six assists for the Royals (10-10, 4-4) in the Mission League game at Louisville.

Village Christian 63, Western Christian 38--Lindy James had 21 points, 11 steals and six assists, and Clanci Lehman added 12 points for the Crusaders (17-4, 6-0), who clinched at least a tie for their third consecutive Alpha League title at Village Christian.

Fillmore 65, La Reina 22--Christie Rosenblad had 19 points and Julie Arundell added 18 for the Flashes (17-2, 6-1) in the Tri-Valley League game.

Carpinteria 45, St. Bonaventure 43--The Seraphs (5-16, 2-6) rallied from a 17-point first-half deficit but fell short in a Tri-Valley League game.

Palmdale 46, Burroughs Ridgecrest 45--Monique Nolan’s free throw with 47 seconds left was the difference in a Golden League game at Palmdale.

The Falcons (18-3, 8-0) trailed 23-20 at halftime.

Bell-Jeff 54, Pius X 50--Cheryl Flores had three three-pointers in the first half for the Guards in a Camino Real League game.
