GIRLS’ BASKETBALL : Roosevelt Makes Short Work of Locke, 57-41

No overtime or last-minute dramatics. The outcome of the second meeting between Roosevelt and Locke on Wednesday was never in doubt.

Dawn Pellerin had 18 points and 10 rebounds and Zenobia Tyson Hunt scored 12 as Roosevelt coasted to a 57-41 victory in the Southeastern Conference game at Locke.

Roosevelt improved to 11-1 in conference with three games to play to inch closer to its fifth conference title in seven seasons. Locke, which suffered a 57-53 overtime defeat to Roosevelt last month, fell to 9-3 and dropped to third in the conference standings.

“We didn’t let them drive the baseline,” Pellerin said. “That’s how they score most of their points. Once we stopped that, it wasn’t close at all.”

Garfield 69, Huntington Park 16--Yolanda Duran scored 15 points as the Bulldogs took over sole possession of second place in the Southeastern Conference.

Fremont 46, Bell 28--Fremont’s Shaterry Danley, Florastine Hillis and Aisha Savage combined for 38 points in the Southeastern Conference game.

Jefferson 49, Jordan 38--Jackie Leverett had 17 points and 11 assists for the Democrats in the Southeastern Conference game.

Washington 82, Carson 42--Tina Greer had 31 points and Kanisha Best added 17 for the Generals in the Southern Pacific Conference victory.

Marshall 53, Franklin 39--Sollette Kummer had 10 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks as the Barristers won their 14th in a row.
