COMMUNITY COLLEGE BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Yanagisawa’s Three RBIs Give OCC an Edge in Tournament

Mark Gardner and Hector Blanchet combined on a five-hitter and catcher Deric Yanagisawa had three hits and three runs batted in as Orange Coast defeated Southwestern, 7-1, in a round-robin game of the Fullerton-Cerritos tournament Saturday at Orange Coast.
Gardner, a sophomore from Fountain Valley High, gave up four hits, walked three and struck out seven in seven innings. Chris Yakura’s two-run double keyed a three-run third inning for the Pirates (1-1).
In their second game, the Panthers blew a 4-2 ninth-inning lead and lost, 5-4, in 10 innings. Chaffey’s Kevin Garcia tied the score with a solo homer in the ninth and drove in the winning run in the 10th with a single.
Robert Caton and Adam Cancellieri had two hits each for OCC.
In other games at the Fullerton-Cerritos tournament:
Fullerton 7, Pierce 3--Andy Tellez hit two two-run home runs and Matt Woods pitched a five-hitter for host Fullerton in both teams’ season opener. Woods struck out eight and allowed one earned run.
Fullerton 15, College of the Canyons 8--Brian Dewespeleare hit an inside-the-park grand slam in a 10-run seventh inning for Fullerton. Brian Tokarse gave up two runs in seven innings to earn his first victory of the season.
At the College of the Desert tournament:
Cypress 9, College of the Desert 2; Cypress 7, Grossmont 2--Brooks Morris had two hits and two runs batted in for Cypress (4-0). Rich Silva pitched five innings of no-hit ball to earn the victory.
In an earlier game, Brad Downing had two hits and an RBI and Jeff Pickler had two hits as Cypress defeated Grossmont, 7-2.
Josh Negro (1-0) gave up no runs and three hits in five innings to earn the victory.
At the Los Angeles Harbor tournament:
Los Angeles Harbor 4, Golden West 2; Mission 5, Golden West 0--Garrett Vitale hit a home run for Golden West (0-2).
In the Palo-Mesa tournament:
Saddleback 7, Glendale (Ariz.) 1; Canada 5, Saddleback 3--Pat Antrim and Matt France had two hits in Saddleback’s victory. Jose Gonzalez and Justin Greco each homered in the second game for the Gauchos (1-1).
