PREP ROUNDUP : Marina Girls Win Game, Soccer Title

Cassandra Campbell scored twice as visiting Marina beat Huntington Beach, 5-0, Monday to clinch its third consecutive Sunset League girls’ soccer title.

Jenny Benson, Kristen Palmer and Gina Giallanardo also scored for Marina (15-0-1, 7-0-1 in league), which is unbeaten in its last 55 games.

In another Sunset League girls’ soccer game:

Fountain Valley 3, Edison 1--Sharon Gillis scored two goals and Kim Green one for fourth-ranked Fountain Valley (16-3-3, 4-2-2). Today, the Barons play host to Los Alamitos, which is a point behind second-place Fountain Valley.

In the Empire League:

Cypress 11, Century 0--Michelle Woiemberghe, Melissa McShane and Mercedes Schroeder each scored two goals for Cypress (16-2-3, 6-0-2).

El Dorado 2, Loara 0--Iris Gonzales scored and assisted on Jennifer Kennedy’s goal for El Dorado (4-0-4 in league).

In the Golden West League:

Rosary 1, Westminster 0--Liz Schilling scored on a direct free kick four minutes into the game and Robin Leonhardt had four saves for second-place Rosary (11-3-2, 6-2).

In Century League boys’ soccer:

El Modena 1, Villa Park 1--Nick Purdom scored in the second half to salvage a tie for eighth-ranked El Modena (12-3-4, 5-1-3), which plays at Orange for the league title Wednesday.

In the Garden Grove League:

Santiago 9, Bolsa Grande 1--Albert Mendez scored three goals to lead Santiago (17-3, 8-2).

In the Olympic League:

Whittier Christian 3, Capistrano Valley Christian 2--Whittier Christian (7-11-1, 3-4-1) overcame a 2-0 halftime deficit with goals from Jared Johnson, Andrew Roudenro and Carlos Rios. Larry Bran scored twice for Capistrano Valley Christian (4-11-1, 0-6-1).

In the South Coast League:

Capistrano Valley 1, Trabuco Hills 0--Brett Thompson scored with a header off a pass from Mark Wallace for fifth-ranked Capistrano Valley (13-3-4, 5-0-3), which remained in first place, two points ahead of Mater Dei.

Mater Dei 3, San Clemente 0--Rudy Gomez scored twice and Kris Hulgreen once for Mater Dei (13-4-2, 5-1-1).
