George Picks UCLA Soccer on First Day to Sign Letters

Seth George, a midfielder for the Santa Margarita boys’ soccer team, signed a letter of intent with UCLA Wednesday.

George has 15 goals and 16 assists this season and scored 24 goals last season.

Misty May, one of the most highly touted girls’ volleyball players in the nation, also was among many Orange County high school athletes who signed.

May, a two-time Times Orange County player of the year, signed with Long Beach State.

Wednesday was the first day athletes could sign letters of intent to accept college scholarships for women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer, water polo and field hockey. The signing period ends Aug. 1.

Other notable girls’ volleyball players who signed include first-team all-county selections Jill Butts of Edison (Cal Poly San Luis Obispo), Courtney Owens of Calvary Chapel (Colorado) and Melissa Schutz of Newport Harbor (Colorado).

In girls’ soccer, Katella’s Jillian Bressler signed with Arizona. Bressler is a member of the under-20 U.S. national team.

Canyon defender Kate Erdei said she has orally committed to Kentucky but doesn’t plan to sign until March. El Dorado’s Kelly Bogan, whose senior season was wiped out by a knee injury, said she plans to sign with Cal State Fullerton next week.
