Tim Brown Is Right, but Could Be Talking His Way Out of Town

Share

The team and the fans all understand your frustration, Tim Brown. You speak for all of us.

So where are you playing next season?

Tim Brown is now following Marcus Allen’s formula for happiness:

1. Tell the truth.

2. Get benched.

3. Get traded.

Al Davis’ pronouncements on the state of the NFL, the 49ers and the Raiders (Morning Briefing, Feb. 3) reminded me of “Sunset Boulevard” and Norma Desmond’s visit to Cecil B. DeMille’s movie set: A faded star, giving her views on an industry that has passed her by, appearing in front of a once-adoring press, which isn’t quite sure whether to laugh or cry.

Who is going to handle Tim Brown and his attitude now that Art Shell is gone? Mike White, the offensive genius who couldn’t keep the Raiders’ line from jumping offside a record number of times in 1994? I don’t think so.

What happened to Al Davis, once one of the premier football minds in the NFL? Was it the lawsuit with the NFL over moving from Oakland? Or has Davis been this way all along and his ego is just so far out of control that it has become obvious to everyone?

Regarding the story, “Davis Can’t Wait to Get Out of Coliseum” (Feb. 3):

The headline is wrong. It should be “The People of L.A. Can’t Wait Until Al Leaves.”

Shame on you, Al Davis. I bet the people on Menlo appreciate you and your friends’ opinion of their neighborhood. Please tell us how your 9-7 team will perform better in a “state-of-the-art stadium that affords parking where people come and feel safe.”

Al Davis has to know that the reason for the empty seats at Raider home games is neither the Coliseum nor the ‘hood; it’s that Raider fans are scarier than their team.
