Anaheim Should Accept Liability

Share

The leadership of Anaheim has reached an all-time low! Not only have they denied liability for the 1993 landslide disaster in Anaheim Hills, they have filed a $10-million countersuit blaming the residents for the damage of the roadways, sewer systems, etc. Does the city of Anaheim take responsibility for anything?

During the 1994 City Council campaign, I made it a priority to visit those affected areas, and many residents wanted me to see the damage to their homes. It was devastating. When I read the newspaper regarding the countersuit, it made me physically ill.

I cannot even imagine how terrible it would be to live in a home that cannot ever be repaired, sold, or even be worth enough to use as collateral for a loan. Many of these people have lost everything!

The city should be ashamed to deny responsibility when it has known for years about the underground water problem.

The city just blew approximately $45 million in the county financial disaster while our mayor received $12,000 in campaign contributions from the same Wall Street brokers who invested our money in the Orange County disaster. Now the city is after your money. The last time I looked, it was being reimbursed by FEMA.

Together, we can take this city back. My heart goes out to all victims of the 1993 landslide disaster.
